Pro - employees are extremely nice and know what they are talking about. Cons - Way overpriced. I purchased a blu ray writer that was at least $30 more than Best Buy or Amazon. I compared prices for other items (new and used) that they sell at the store and they are all higher priced than anywhere else. Save your money and make the drive to Anchorage or buy online. I brought my high-end PC in three days ago, because it wouldn't boot. They said I should hear back from them within three days. 11:30am this afternoon Carl called and said the (unique) problem was that the boot drive—a 320GB SSD—had died and he could fix it with a $180 replacement disk and no labor! I approved that. Two and a half hours later he called and said it was ready! Sure, maybe I could have had Amazon ship me a cheaper SSD, But that would take a week (since it seems I couldn't get Next Day shipping for that) but I needed it by Monday for start of UAA classes. I am very happy with the price and timeliness. I regard Computer Renaissance as the best computer repair business in Alaska. However, it is NOT the best source of inexpensive components. We just DO NOT HAVE a local source with a wide range of inexpensive components, that I'm aware of. Sure, you might luck out and find the inexpensive component you want at Office Depot or Freddie's. But for a wide range of inexpensive components, you have to go on-line, such as to Amazon; then you pay with time. Think of Computer Renaissance's components as including a somewhat hefty Instant Shipping cost that is well worth the price if you need that component ASAP. Note: It may have helped that I also brought in an external drive with a complete system image backup, along with a sheet of paper documenting the symptoms, password, characteristics, my contact info, etc., but that is something everyone should do for every repair shop, anyway. I had my computer to multiple places to get it fixed and bought countless software to fix it. I was told by others to buy a new computer. I took it to Computer Renaissance and they did a diagnostic, told me what was wrong, how much it would be, how long it would be for the parts and made recommendations on free software to change. Not only did they actually fix my computer, they were so patient and understanding to me, kept in touch so I knew what was going on, found parts that I know are impossible to get and did it ahead of schedule. Their prices are fair and I am so incredibly happy that I found them! Lots of so called computer repair places out there, but these guys are the real deal! Go see them!! I went in for pricing on a new laptop. The selection was not the best currently, but the inventory moves and changes a bit. The man working was very informative, and he had plenty of knowledge to give. He was not push with any of the products, nor was he rude as was stated earlier. The selection of used and rebuilt laptops was about equal to the new, but each one was well described with its features. He was very informative about possible upgrades, and recommended computers based on the tasks they would be used for. He didn't once try and push a multi-thousand dollar gaming platform, and showed me what I was I looking for. He answered all questions frankly and quickly, and did not have to "refer to a manual or ask for help". I will definitely be giving them business, not just for a laptop, but any repair, part, or networking needs. Great shop, good staff. This is being written by a self-proclaimed non-techie who generally does not get along with technology very well, has to read manuals, and do the trial and error method for just about everything. Set me up with a nice used laptop . Answered all my questions. Laptops been great and still going.
